Volunteering Opportunities
Delos is committed to working with volunteers and believes that their contribution to community life is invaluable.
Delos has regular placements from overseas volunteers who join us for a 12 month period. All of our overseas volunteers are provided for us by the Inter Cultural Youth Exchange (ICYE)
Before they join us, our ICYE volunteers from overseas countries have a Police check. All of our local volunteers undergo a check with the Criminal Records Bureau called an Enhanced Disclosure. These checks ensure that we know whether someone has been in trouble with the Police in the past and this helps us to keep the people who live in our community safe.
All volunteers are supernumerary, this means that they are not counted as staff and so they don't have to be "on duty" in the same way as our regular staff members do. However, it's important to us that they become part of our community and spend time with individual service users and members to befriend them, take them out to the shops, to watch a film, buy clothes, go to a club, eat at a restaurant or whatever.
All volunteers undergo an induction programme when they join to help them to get to know Delos. As part of this they are told about who we are, what we do, and more importantly, they are introduced to, and make friends with, the people living in our community. They are then offered supervision and support that is the same as if they were staff members.
